Parks & Recreation

Recreation, parks, and open space play a critical role in providing a outstanding quality of life. Collier Township has engaged Pashek Associates develop a comprehensive recreation, park, and open space plan.

Developing this plan includes extensive public participation, a detailed inventory and assessment, and the development of recommendations for the future of parks and recreation in Collier Township.

After several town hall meetings with residents and the completion of a parks and recreation survey, the comprehensive, recreation, park, and open space plan is now being developed.

Collier Township and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Recreation-Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Site Plan:

Parks’ facilities and recreation programs are a basic service provided by local government. As Collier Township has experienced rapid population growth, many of the current playgrounds and fields are stressed by the numbers of persons they now serve. The Collier Township Commissioners recognize the need to build new facilities to meet current demands and also to plan for future growth. Solid recreation planning begins with an understanding of the variety of programs desired by your community’s residents and a solid plan for the best areas to build and maintain facilities.

Funded in part by a Pennsylvania park planning grant, Collier Township is currently conducting an inventory, assessment and plan for Collier’s future park and recreation needs. This study will also ensure that proper space is reserved as open “green” areas for future generation to enjoy, and that Collier maintains the rural character that is part of our history and charm.

Fifteen residents have been appointed to a “Study Group” for the Township’s Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Site Plan.

Collier Township is also the starting point for the  Panhandle Trail, a 29 mile trail that sits on an abandoned railroad track and stretches to Colliers, WV.
